I believe that three schools is the way to go. It may be 4 or 5 years before this will happen though. In the meantime, a lot of decisions will need to be made. Not sure if the present board can make them.

They could, but they won't. Spineless is perhaps the best term to describe the current school board.

I believe with the changes after the election, those decisions will be made. I understand they will be hard. It was hard for me to vote for the water rate increase here in Big Stone, but I felt that that was the best way to approach the problem. Not an easy decision.

Seems like from the figures they quoted at the meeting, 3 new schools could be built with no tax increase, and the savings each year from staff reduction and decreased maintenance costs would be sufficient to pay the debt service. If that's the case, the decision may be a no-brainer financially.
Public schools will always find ways to waste extra money. Consolidation will do likewise, I'm sure.

The schools need to be for 50 years- the coal will be gone, the local folks can't land a plant or even a call center. In 15-20 years the student population will be halved, and don't forget- the argument all along has been sports don't matter. Get over your Friday night memories, Appy. And the VHSL has shown if it is a hardship, they will let you play down, look at Lee High. We could find plenty of Kentucky teams to play. Lee's numbers dropped badly after St Charles worked out. The same is coming here.

Consolidating into two schools would be the same or smaller than Lee High, which is playing A competition.
The test is simple, if "your" team wins a national championship, do you get a championship ring? If the answer is yes, then you can say "we." If not, you can't.
